1. Niilo Saari, Acting Chairman, called the meeting to order at 8.45 am and welcomed all participants.

2. A quorum for the meeting was declared. Irina Ilmokari was appointed as the meeting secretary, and Heikki Pervila and Jimmy Krats were elected as scrutineers.

3. Participants’ voting rights were reviewed as presented by Veli Niinimaa in writing and found to be in order.

4. The agenda was approved as presented.

5. There were no special guests to be introduced.

6. Chairman’s Report for 2016-17, Canada Region: Veli Niinimaa’s report had been distributed to the participants previously with the meeting package and the review included some discussions. Seppo Peuhkurinen noted that Veli Niinimaa had done a good job as Chairman of the FEP. The report was accepted as written.

7. Canadian Regional Items:

a) It was noted that a lack of opportunity to meet face-to-face more often presents a challenge for Canada as a large country and that different ways to meet, such as through Skype or chat rooms should be considered. Irina Ilmokari emphasized that the Sutinat publication, which Veli Niinimaa translates into English, is a good publication from Suomi-Seura and its distribution should be directed to include individuals as well in order to create awareness and highlight the importance of the FEP function. It was further noted that voting by mail is in progress by the Finnish Parliament and will be fully functional for the 2019 elections. Seppo Peuhkurinen suggested new improvements for the functioning of the Canada Region, but had no time to delve into them due to a lack of time. He also noted that as many participants of the FEP are getting older, younger people should be harnessed. Eila Saari explained the importance of summer camps in recruiting new strength for the FEP.

b) It was noted that Vancouver had cancelled its previous commitment to host Finnish Grand Festivals in 2018. During the Sudbury 2017 Festivals, Toronto had decided to host the 2018 Grand Festivals. Therefore, the next AGM of the FEP, Canada Region, will be held in Toronto in conjunction with the Finnish Canadian Grand Festivals.

c) No new initiatives for the 2020 FEP Congress were brought forward at this point in time.

8. Eila Saari made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 9.20 am, seconded by Riitta-Liisa White.

Respectfully submitted by:
Niilo Saari, Acting Chairman Irina Ilmokari, Meeting Secretary
